Sarah McLachlan – Possession

First time I heard this tune it was a powerful experience. And it stuck, from the first moment. Learned the lyrics the same day and the song haunted me for many months. It comes back from time to time, not sure what catalyzes the return but it is here now and stuck in my head today.

Listen as the wind blows
From across the great divide
Voices trapped in yearning
Memories trapped in time

The night is my companion
And solitude my guide
Would I spend forever here
And not be satisfied

The tune took on a very dark life with the whole lawsuit and suicide but that’s the way of the best melancholy tunes, isn’t it?

The bridge still blows me away, too. It shouldn’t. It’s simply, really. Maybe it’s the way it’s mixed. 🙂

The whole album is great. Just sayin.

Later that same day…..

Fuck it’s the bass player, Pierre_Marchand, who also produced Fumbling Toward Ecstasy. I love what he plays. I’ve listened to the song 20 times today and the last two with headphones and at volume something I don’t usually do because my tinnitus will go nuts but yeah that’s it. It always is the bass players 🙂 (Maybe I’ll write about Stanley next.)

The older I get the more I analyze music. It’s a burden.
